Dazzling Blogger Award

It’s always cool to be part of the first group to do something. Today, I am super excited to be part of the inaugural group of recipients of the Dazzling Blogger Award. Helen, from Crispy Confessions, created this award to recognize bloggers who she felt excel in at least one major area of blogging: writing skills, engagement, social media marketing, and content.

Before I go any further, I want to say a big Thank You to Helen for the nomination and for creating this award. It’s a great feeling to be recognized by a fellow blogger, especially one whose work you enjoy. I only recently discovered Helen’s blog. If you haven’t visited her blog, please drop by Crispy Confessions and check it out. She’s a 31-year-old mom raising two multiracial children. Her blog covers a wide range of topics like books, parenting, multiracial issues, multilingualism, social media, and writing.

My answers to Helen’s 7 questions

What is one life lesson that you learned during the Covid-19 pandemic?

I learned that you can’t always depend on other people to do the right thing. Instead of letting the actions of others frustrate me, I chose to focus on my own corner of the world and my own actions.

What was the catalyst for you wanting to start blogging?

It was a casual conversation with a co-worker. At the beginning of 2019, I set a goal to reduce the amount of single-use plastic I was using. Once I got started, I really started to embrace eco-friendly living. One day, my co-worker and I excitedly shared our ideas on how to reduce waste and live a greener life. I decided I wanted to share my message with the world so I went home and started planning my blog.

What are seven things that you hope to accomplish within the next five years?

Finish the Plain Language Certificate program I am working on; get back into singing with a band; finish decluttering and then stay on top of the clutter; take the trip to Hawaii we missed out on in 2020; visit my sister in England; turn some of my best blog posts into an e-book or book; and retire or at least semi-retire from my full-time job.

What book or movie has been life changing for you?

I honestly can’t think of a book or movie that was life changing. My biggest influence is music so most of my big moments came from songs or artists. When I was 10 or 11, my sister played a Queen album for me. I was hooked and they have been my favourite band ever since. I have met so many great friends through my love of Queen so it has truly been life changing.

What advice would you give to any new blogger?

My biggest piece of advice is to be authentic. If you try to be something you’re not, or write about things that don’t excite you, it will show in your writing. For more blogging tips, check out my first blogiversary post from last year.

What are seven of your favourite things?

Flowers, sunsets, chocolate, tea, music, outdoor walks, cider.

In seven words or less, tell me what your blog is about.

Living a simpler, more environmentally-friendly life.

Gold trophy with gold stars exploding out of it - The Dazzling Blogger Award
Hi there! I’m Michelle and I live in Kitchener, Ontario, Canada. I am married with two young adult daughters. I’m a big fan of reducing waste, using less plastic, decluttering and simplifying life as much as possible.

    1. In the morning, I drink black tea – strong with a splash of milk. I also put a small scoop of matcha in my smoothie. Later in the day I switch to herbals. My current favourite is an organic dandelion caramel nut blend. It’s delicious.

In the summer, I like to brew my own iced tea with fruity herbal blends.

Thanks again for nominating me, Helen. I really appreciated it.

  1. Congratulations on the well-deserved award, Michelle! I would have thought you’d been blogging for several years, you seem like a pro and a staple of the blogging world. I’m glad you and your co-worker sparked those conversations and took you to blogging. I also like your answer to the lesson learned during the pandemic as that’s something I’ve learned (and struggled to accept through increasing frustration!) I find it very empowering to focus on what WE can do, but at the same time it feels mightily annoying to put in so much effort only to have someone push past you and cough in your face…

    1. Thanks so much for your kind comments, Caz.

I’ve said many times that the pandemic is an interesting study in human behaviour. Grad school students will have lots of inspiration for studies and theses on this topic for years to come.

  2. I always enjoy reading these award posts because it’s such a fun way to get to know bloggers more 🙂

I probably have a number of books that changed my life, but I would say most of all it was a Nancy Drew book “The Clue in the Jewel Box” that I read when I was eight. I fell in love with books after that and it led me to fall in love with writing too.

I'd love to hear your ideas. Drop me a comment below.
