  1. I read 3 posts from this list – Music and the amazing mental health benefits of songs, why sustainability is important and plastic free July plastic in our clothing and I absolutely loved them. I can’t even pick a favourite. They are all fabulous. Thank you for sharing.

  2. Awesome! Thanks for sharing. I will be sure to check out these posts.
Also I think Simone Biles’ decision to withdraw and take a mental health break was very brave. IN a world that is very cutthroat and cutting edge, they are always saying you need to win win win no matter what. But winning is not everything. Health always comes first — physical AND mental health.
And then the way that Biles handled the negativity & the way that she jumped back in to do the balance beam routine after her mental health break — makes me give her even MORE respect. Kudos to her.

    1. Thanks Helen.

I agree that it must have taken a tremendous amount of courage for Simone to withdraw from the competition. It’s sad that she had to defend her decision. If she had broken her leg or sprained her ankle, people would have been more sympathetic. But, gymnastics is a sport of split-second timing. If her head wasn’t in the game, it could have been disastrous. I was so happy to see her snag that bronze medal in the balance beam competition.

      1. Absolutely! I support her wholeheartedly for doing what was right for her. And mental health is just as important as physical health, maybe even more so. And I don’t know if they would have supported her if she had withdrawn because of an injured leg. I remember in the 1992(?) olympics, one of the gymnasts Kerri Strug, did the routine again even though she had hurt her ankle. I remember that she had landed on one leg. At the time, I felt so much admiration toward this feat. But now I feel sorry that she had to do that again on a hurt ankle. She shouldnot have had to do the routine if she was not feeling 100% OK.. but she felt obligated because of the dynamics of the sport. It’s pretty awful.
