Along with a summary of my writing activity last month, my November 2025 blog roundup has terrific posts on the wisdom of age, an updated Christmas don’t want list, the value of a vision board, and rethinking our approach to post-secondary education.
Happy reading!

Cool things I read in November
Since publishing my first monthly roundup at the end of 2020, it has been an honour to introduce you to some of my favourite bloggers. I started the roundup to say thank you to the blogging community and bring attention to talented writers who create inspiring and informative content.

Here are 4 pieces that captured my attention in November.
Turning 62: Some Things I Know for Sure and What I’m Still Learning – Susan Williams at Booming Encore
Booming Encore is a terrific site to help us live our best lives as we age. Susan Williams was the inspiration for my 60 before 60 list and she’s done it again. This terrific post encapsulates so much wisdom and thoughtfulness. Well worth the read!
But the truth is, the older I get, the more I realize that wisdom isn’t about having everything figured out. It’s about knowing what you know, being comfortable with what you don’t and willing to still ask questions and learn.

The Gift of Less: Updating My “Don’t Want List” for a Minimalist Christmas – Happily Decluttered
A few years ago, Suzanne’s original “Don’t Want List” post inspired me to create my own don’t want list. I was delighted to see a new post from Suzanne with an updated list for 2025. Check it out for some ideas to sharpen your focus on what really matters.
This isn’t about deprivation; it’s about protection. It’s protecting my time, my space, my energy, and my peace.

Personal Long Range Plans/Vision Board – Retired, And Now What?
I’ve never created a vision board but, after reading Caroline’s post, I just might make one for 2026.
It’s not a failure to finish the year with some items on my Personal Planning Board unaccomplished. That’s not the point of the board. The theme is the point. The guiding theme that I chose for the year was supported by the items on my board.

The Case for a Modern “Pre-Trade School” – Existential Ergonomics
I’m a big believer in apprenticeships and the value of hands-on learning. In this thoughtful piece, Erin considers the doors we’d open by exposing kids to a variety of jobs and skills, rather than pushing them toward a college or university education.
Lately, I’ve been thinking about how we teach big, complex professions like medicine or engineering. We ask students to spend years studying from books before they ever get to do the work itself. What if education looked a little different? What if students learned through both study and experience—something closer to the old apprenticeship model?

The vision board caught my attention, and I might do one.
It is an interesting idea. I tend to write down my theme and ideas but making it visual would definitely help keep it top of mind.
I do the same in my notebook planner, but having a board in my home office will help me with prioritization and focus.
Maybe a good new year project would be to create our boards, and take pictures of them and share them on our blogs to keep ourselves accountable. Hmm. 🤔
That’s a great idea. I’m going to start working on mine and plan to write a post during the first week of January.
