Get inspired with my January 2026 blog roundup

Is it just me, or did January feel like it went on forever? Let’s blame it on the polar vortex! After a quiet December, things got back to normal in the blogging world in January. My January 2026 blog roundup has a summary of my writing activity for the month and inspiring posts on making the world we live in a better place, information overload, wisdom from Martin Luther King, and opting out of beauty culture.

Happy reading!

Cool things I read in January

Since publishing my first monthly roundup at the end of 2020, it has been an honour to introduce you to some of my favourite bloggers. I started the roundup to say thank you to the blogging community and bring attention to talented writers who create inspiring and informative content.

Here are 4 pieces that captured my attention in January.

The Kind of World I’d Like to Grow Old In – Aspiring Blog

This beautiful piece from Ritish is one of the most inspiring things I’ve read in a long time. It’s a reminder of the power each of us has to make the world a better place—one small action at a time.

A world where kindness isn’t broadcast, branded, or announced in captions. Where doing the right thing doesn’t require an audience, and goodness isn’t measured by how visible it is.

Unconfusing Our Confusion – Dr. Gerald Stein

Information overload, and misinformation overload, is a reality of life in the age of AI. In this brilliant post, Dr. Stein provides a thoughtful analysis of the information overload the plagues us in these troubled times.

It is easier to reach a quick conclusion about what is right and what is wrong than to gather information and inform ourselves. Instead, we choose to believe we have learned enough. Since we cannot tolerate more, we decide our knowledge is adequate.

Martin Luther King on Love, Power & Economic Justice – Deborah J. Brasket, Author

Almost 60 years after the assassination of Martin Luther King Jr. Deborah’s insightful post looks at his prophetic views on the emerging threat of economic injustice.

The gap between the rich and the poor is far greater now than it was then. The two-class society King feared and warned us against is already here.

Why You Should Opt Out of Beauty Culture and Simplify Your Routine – Maximum Gratitude, Minimal Stuff

The multi-billion dollar beauty industry wants to sell you their products, and many of them are unnecessary, not to mention costly. In this post, Karen urges you to simplify your beauty routine and reduce the number of products you buy.

I think the most important things you can do to look healthy and attractive have nothing to do with makeup, lotions, or other beauty products.

Hi there! I’m Michelle and I live in Kitchener, Ontario, Canada. I am married with two young adult daughters. I’m a big fan of reducing waste, using less plastic, decluttering and simplifying life as much as possible.

  1. So interesting! I’ll definitely be checking out your posts on decluttering. While the surface of my home is decluttered, open a drawer or closet door and it’s frightening! Thank you so much for including my post of MLK in your line-up. What a lovely surprise.

    1. You’re very welcome Deborah. It was a terrific post.

I just emerged from clearing out the closet under the stairs in our basement. Oh my! I found all sorts of junk lurking in there. 😂

  2. Hey Michelle, lovely roundup! And thanks for the shout-out to my post. If more people… valued kindness above power & profit, this world would be a merrier place.
I always enjoy your collections. I loved that Martin Luther King post by Deborah. It was such a powerful reminder about love, justice, and how those ideas still matter today.

      1. Agree…and the older I get the more I realize my skin is so much happier when I do LESS to it. Sunscreen, good cleanser and I’m a happy camper. Can’t wait to take a look at the post later…my “fun time” reading for this evening! xo, Michelle! 💝😊💝

  3. Thanks for the intro to some new-to-me blogs, Michelle! And happy February! Where is the year going??

One of the reasons I so desire a family is to raise children that will shape the kind of world we’d all like to grow old in. I may not be able to change the world at large, but if enough of us raise us kind people, maybe the world will be a better place a generation from now.

Also, the beauty culture article is great! I stopped skin care circa 2018 because I had neither the energy nor money to keep it up. I made peace with the physical signs of aging so, now, despite energy and cash flow, I’ve not reintroduced anything. It’s actually quite freeing.

    1. I know. I can’t believe it’s February.

One of the best things about parenting is passing your values on to your kids and then seeing them grow into kind and responsible adults. Sadly, the values many parents pass on aren’t positive ones, but we can only do our part.

I hear you on the beauty products. I use very few products and the main staple in my bathroom cabinet is a $10 jar of coconut oil that lasts me about a year. There’s a lot to be said for accepting how we look as we age and feeling good about it. I think that goes a long way toward a positive attitude toward aging in general which research has shown can actually help you live longer.

      Thanks for reading, Erin!

  4. We’ve made it to February. It feels like the year is just whizzing by. I do love the longer daylight. Hope we get warmer weather for outdoor walks this month!

    1. Yes to daylight. And the sunshine the last couple of days has been amazing. Now let’s see what Wiarton Willie has to say this morning. Although I think we already know what will happen, despite what he says. 😂

I'd love to hear your ideas. Drop me a comment below.
