I love Christmas music. In fact, it’s probably one of my absolute favourite things about the Christmas season. In today’s post, I’m sharing a Christmas playlist I made last year. It includes mostly popular and contemporary songs from some of my favourite artists. If you’re on Spotify I’ve included a link. I hope you’ll give it a listen.
Memories of the mix-tape
I love that you can put a playlist together on Spotify or Apple Music in a matter of minutes. In years gone by, I would spend all day making one 90 minute mix-tape for a party. It was a ton of work, not to mention that the selection of music was limited by the albums I had in my collection, or what I could borrow from friends.
As the designated “music maker” in my group of friends, I’d spend ages searching through my album collection and agonizing over which songs to add. Then, with a list of songs and stack of albums at the ready, it was an exercise in coordination to drop the needle on the record player with one hand and start the tape at just the right moment with the other. The struggle was real!
In those days, if a friend gave you a mix-tape, you knew they must really like you a lot. You didn’t go to that much effort for just anybody.
But I never made a Christmas mix-tape
Over the years, I made quite a collection of what I used to call “party tunes” tapes. I wish I had kept them because it would be so much fun to listen to them now. I could even take an afternoon and recreate them all on Spotify.
I’m pretty sure I never made a Christmas mix-tape though. Likely because Christmas music wasn’t our first choice of party tunes in those days.
My Christmas playlist
Over the years, I’ve accumulated quite a collection of Christmas CDs. Last year, I discovered Spotify and decided to make a Christmas playlist to listen to in my car. Within half an hour, I had 39 awesome Christmas songs on the list.
If you’re on Spotify and want to give it a listen, here’s a link. I’m still adding to it, so there will be more than 39 songs by the time you read this.

The memories live on!
Looking back, I’m pretty sure I could have achieved great things with all the time I spent making mix-tapes when I was younger. But, we did have awesome party tunes. You can’t take those memories away from us!

Oh gosh you had me laughing quite hard with your intro! I remember a time when we did something relatively similar… not with a record player though! We would take two cassettes and play one while recording the other on the same radio. And then there were CDs – rewritable one! Quite the upgrade I must say! 😂😂😂
True. And now CDs are “old school” but vinyl is making a comeback. LOL. My daughter bought a record player and is buying records. Too funny.
That’s a great list. My list, if I had one, would include Frosty the Snowman with Leon Redbone.
Ooh that’s a good one too.
I love love love Thank God Its Christmas, nothing can beat it. See, I knew I liked you. 😘
I am a huge Queen fan. It actually borders on obsession. LOL I am so glad they did a Christmas song. It was the first song I added to my playlist.
