Although I’m not a big fan of DIY beauty products, some are so simple and easy, and can actually save you a lot of money. I’ve mentioned previously how I use coconut oil as a natural low-cost facial moisturizer, and for a variety of other skin and personal care uses. Today I’m sharing my easy 3-ingredient DIY face powder.
Now, if you use any kind of oil as a facial moisturizer, you already know the value of face powder. It’s a must before applying makeup. But, like so many other cosmetics, this kind of powder comes in plastic packaging. Most of this packaging is not even recyclable.

I decided a few months ago when I emptied my old container of face powder to make my own. This is an easy recipe with just three ingredients. I suspect you may have these ingredients in your pantry already. If not, grab your refillable containers and head to your local bulk food store and join me when you get back.
Easy zero-waste face powder
Here’s what you’ll need…
- ½ cup arrowroot power
- ¼ cup corn starch
- 1 to 3 tablespoons cocoa powder
Making it is this easy…
- Sift the arrowroot powder and corn starch together until well blended. I find it easiest to put them in a container with a lid and give them a good shake!
- Slowly whisk in the cocoa powder until you get the right shade to match your skin tone. This might take a bit of trial and error to get it just right.
- Grab your favourite powder brush and apply.
You can store this powder in a closed container for months.

Brilliant post! I’ll definitely try this 💕
Thanks Caroline. Let me know how it goes for you.
This is such a great recipe and I really love the fact it contains only three ingredients! I almost shudder to think what kind of chemicals are in the powder I’m using right now! Thanks, Michelle! Cher xo
Yes Cher. Reading the ingredient list even on some products that are labelled “natural” is an eye-opener.
