January roundup – 7 brilliant blog posts

January went by in the blink of an eye, and we’re now a full week into February. Here in southwestern Ontario, it was one of the coldest and snowiest Januarys in recent memory. It was a great month to curl up with a cup of tea and read some blog posts, and the blogging community delivered. I’m happy to share my roundup of 7 brilliant January blog posts.

This monthly roundup is my way of saying thank you to the blogging community, and highlighting some of my favourite bloggers who regularly put out funny, inspiring and informative content.

Please grab your favourite hot beverage and take a few minutes to read these posts. I’m sure you’ll love them. And don’t forget to explore some of the other content from these bloggers and give them a follow.

Coming up on Boomer Eco Crusader in February

This month, I’ll continue my Simple Living Sunday posts. This series is really helping me stay focused, and I hope you’re enjoying it too! Also in February, I’ve got some of my favourite home workouts, a roundup of time management tips, and a look at the ins-and-outs of NFTs.

Let’s keep in touch! Join my mailing list and I’ll email you when I add a new post.

What does being successful really mean in 2022? – The Doubting Thomas

When was the last time you sat down and thought about what success means to you—rather than what the rest of the world thinks? In this post, Tom looks at why we each need to define our own version of success.

I do think we’re in a very precarious position at this moment in time when it comes to the way society views success. We give huge amounts of time in the news and on social media to people who put themselves in the public eye for the wrong reasons.

10 yearly challenges that are great for mental health – Growing With Spawn

It’s February and there’s a good chance your new year’s resolutions have fallen by the wayside. Fear not! Shelly’s post has ten challenges you can start any time!

…the term New Year’s Resolutions puts me off immediately. … Not only do they fail for most of us, but they leave us feeling less than adequate for the reminder of the year. So instead of making resolutions, I find yearly challenges to be more achievable.

5 perfect ways to explore the Niagara Region – Staying Afloat

I’ve always considered myself lucky to live within a couple of hours drive of Niagara Region. This post gives great suggestions on things to do in this amazing area, that don’t involve looking at Niagara Falls (although that’s pretty cool, too).

With some areas reaching over 400 meters in elevation, it’s no surprise that waterfalls are common here. The most famous waterfall in the area is, of course, Niagara Falls. But there are dozens of waterfalls waiting for you to explore in the Niagara Region. And each of them is unique in its own way.

Angels that no longer wear white – Aspiring Blog

Nurses are often undervalued and mistreated by our society. Aspiring Blog brought us this guest post written by Dennis Elton Stanley. It’s a beautiful tribute to the nursing profession.

In the past, all nurses wore those white uniforms. In modern times the uniforms have been replaced with more practical scrubs, so they really are the angels that no longer wear white.

9 worrying reasons why sugar is bad for your health – Jasperden Health

Rachel’s posts are always full of interesting tips and facts, and this one is no exception. As a self-confessed sugar addict, this one gave me lots of reasons to try to kick the habit.

We’re born craving sugar and it’s addictive as cocaine. Our brains get a surge of dopamine when we eat sugar and they want more to increase the feelings of pleasure.

I don’t feel strong – Monty’s Blahg

Here’s a new face in my monthly roundup! I first connected with Monty from the artwork he created for my collaborations with my friends at T.B.C… This post is a beautiful reflection on what it means to be strong.

I don’t feel strong. I don’t stand firm and tall. I’ve been bent and scattered by the winds of time. I’ve fallen under the weight of gravity. I’ve been pulled and pushed by the tides. Yet, today I stand. Not so tall, but I stand.

Snapchat Dysmorphia and Selfie Dysmorphia – Unwanted Life

If you’re a parent of a pre-teen or teenage girl, you need to read this informative post about how all those seemingly-harmless filtered selfies are damaging their mental health.

The problem is, this edited version of ourselves sets unrealistic beauty standards, resulting in people seeking to look like their filtered and edited self they see on these apps.

  1. Thanks for sharing, Michelle! January was a cooold month in our part of the world… made me want to stay hibernated until Spring (and I usually like to be out and about, at least once a day for fresh air)! Stay warm!

  2. Wow, Michelle! Thank you very much for including me on this list. Especially with those other posts that are so thought-provoking from these bloggers.
