A couple of months ago, my friend Smell over at Smelly Socks and Garden Peas invited me to contribute a guest post to her Lessons in Loss series. She asked me to write about a loss I had experienced and how it affected me.
When she first asked me to participate, I wasn’t sure. So many people have suffered devastating losses. I didn’t feel qualified to write a post about loss. When she suggested it didn’t have to be about the loss of a person, I put my thinking cap on. An idea started to take shape. I was taken back to an emotional time when I lost my hair following my cancer diagnosis.
You can find my post over at Smelly Socks and Garden Peas.

Beautifully written! You are such a strong woman!
Thanks Shelly! 💕
I really appreciate your openness in sharing your journey and story. It’s such a freeing thing to not have your identity tied to something that can be temporary (like hair) and love that you were able to own that. My hair is a large part of my identity and I know it will be a difficult process if I ever have to lose it.
Thanks Alison. This is just one of the many things cancer taught me about myself. Sometimes life puts these lessons in the strangest of packages.
That was a beautiful post Michelle! I’m going to check out more posts over at Smelly Socks and Garden Peas.😁
Thank you Suzanne. It was different than what I usually write but it’s good to go outside your comfort zone once in a while!
