It’s time for a September 2025 goals update

I don’t know where September went. Between our trip to PEI and our cruise, the month passed by in the blink of an eye. And the weather felt more like July than September! Now that we’re a week into my favourite month of the year, it’s time for my September 2025 goals update.

September goals update

Overall this year, I’ve been making great progress on all my goals. I was bound to hit a roadblock sooner or later and that happened in September. Let’s take a closer look.

Fitness goals

Last month, I shared that I had been feeling a bit bored with my fitness routine. I should have kept quiet. On our trip home from PEI, I hurt my leg and was hobbling around on crutches for a few days, meaning I couldn’t get my workouts in.

As a result of my injury, I didn’t meet my goal for the weeks at home. I didn’t even come close. In fact, it was a big fat zero.

All was not lost, though. I did manage to exceed my goal of averaging 7,000 steps a day for the two weeks we were away. I averaged 8,741 steps a day for those two weeks.

Reading

Meeting my goal of 5 books was in doubt right up until the last couple of days when I started reading Kristin Hannah’s The Women and finished it in two days. It was definitely one of the best books I’ve read recently. Here’s what else I read this month:

  • Notes on Infinity by Austin Taylor
  • Keeping Faith by Jodi Picoult
  • Death Row by Freida McFadden
  • The Ikigai Journey by Hector Garcia and Francesc Miralles

Writing

I achieved my goal of choosing the pictures for my personal memoir. And what fun I had looking through old photo albums!

Retirement coaching

I published the pages for my retirement workshop on my Second Life Vision site, and started promotional activities.

My October goals

Other than a week visiting Laura in B.C., I’ll be at home for October so my goals reflect that. Here are my plans for this month:

  • Fitness: My leg is feeling a lot better, but I don’t want to overdo it. I’ve scaled back my goals a little to allow myself time to ease into things.
    • On the weeks I’m home, my goal is to complete 200 minutes of physical activity a week, including 2 strength training and 3 balance/flexibility sessions.
    • On the week I’m away, I’ll aim for a daily walk and an average of 7,000 steps a day.
  • Reading: Again, my goal for October is  to read 5 books.
  • Music: Now that the band is back together, I’ll polish up my songs. And I want to come up with two or three song suggestions for the band.
  • Work/Other:
    • Wrap up the work for my curriculum development contract at Conestoga College.
    • Explore volunteer opportunities for 2026 related to a couple of areas of interest.
    • Update our emergency binder.

Despite my injury putting a damper on my fitness goals, I’m pretty happy with how September went overall. I’m looking forward to a productive month in October.

Hi there! I’m Michelle and I live in Kitchener, Ontario, Canada. I am married with two young adult daughters. I’m a big fan of reducing waste, using less plastic, decluttering and simplifying life as much as possible.

    1. It has been fun. Unfortunately, there are very few pictures of my early years (I was the 4th daughter…not the son my Dad so desperately wanted) so the early years photos are sparse. I made up for it in later years though. 🤣

  1. Traveling throws a schedule and time completely off I think Michelle! It’s that losing track of everything routine and normal. I think you did well given the injury also 🙂

I'd love to hear your ideas. Drop me a comment below.
