Is there anything better on a cold day than a steaming mug of hot chocolate? It’s a perfect treat after any outdoor winter activity or as a before-bed treat on Christmas Eve. In the last of my festive recipe posts, I’ve got a delicious hot chocolate recipe that you can make in your slow cooker so it’s ready and waiting when you come in from the cold.

In a couple of earlier posts, I shared how my slow cooker is one of my favourite kitchen appliances. When I prepare a Christmas dinner, I use it to simplify my preparation by making Sweet and simple slow cooker glazed carrots and Easy and delicious slow cooker stuffing.

This hot chocolate recipe is perfect for those cold winter days. You can prepare it ahead of time and leave it on warm while you go out and enjoy some outdoor winter fun with your family.

Sweetness alert! This recipe is very sweet. If you don’t have an exceptionally sweet tooth, I suggest cutting down the amount of sweetened condensed milk from a full can to a half or even a quarter a can.

Creamy Slow Cooker Hot Chocolate

Makes 8-10 servings.

Ingredients

• 1.5 cups table cream
• Sweetened condensed milk. Depending on the level of sweetness desired, you can use anywhere from one-quarter to a full can.
• 2 cups milk chocolate chips
• 6 cups milk
• 1 teaspoon vanilla extract

Instructions

• Mix all ingredients together.
• Cover and cook on low for 2 hours. Stir occasionally while cooking because the chocolate chips will sink to the bottom.
• If you’re making it ahead of time, leave on warm setting until ready to serve.
• Stir well before serving.
