Small steps that make a big difference

The Climate Change Collective is an initiative where the blogging community unites behind a common goal. This month’s lead post is from Caroline at Enviroline Blog, who discusses Plastic Free July and small steps that make a big difference for the environment.

Regardless of how you feel about environmental issues, anything you do to reduce waste and rethink your personal consumption can help you live a simpler, healthier life.

As I read Caroline’s post, I was struck by this comment.

Choose one swap to make for Plastic Free July 2024, try to stick with it and see how you feel at the end of the month. The next month you could carry on, pick a different swap if this one isn’t working, or even add another swap in.

Reading this took me back to the end of 2018 when I received a Christmas gift that started me on my journey to sustainability. A simple gift of hand soap from a local refillery prompted me to evaluate our waste and the amount of single-use plastic our household was consuming.

Over five years later, we’ve made hundreds of small changes that I truly believe make a big difference. We’re far from perfect, but just being aware of our impact prompts us to do what we can to reduce it. In addition to the environmental benefits, my focus on sustainability has benefitted my life in so many ways. It has saved me money, reduced my stress, and led me to simplify and declutter my life.

If you’re ready to reap the joys and benefits of sustainable living, start by taking a few minutes to read Caroline’s post for ideas on how to take small steps that make a big difference this Plastic Free July.

About the Climate Change Collective

The Climate Change Collective was born out of an exchange that took place when I left a comment on a blog post by Jamie Ad Stories. Jamie and I wanted to find a way to keep the climate change message top of mind for everyone, so I put out a tweet to see what kind of interest there would be in a climate-change-related blogging collaboration. The Climate Change Collective was born!

The members of the collective take turns writing a monthly blog post sharing their unique perspective about climate change. After the post is published, the rest of the group keeps the conversation going by sharing a link to the post on their blogs along with their thoughts and ideas.

If you’re a like-minded blogger and would like to join our collective, please get in touch. More voices joining the conversation means more attention to the problems plaguing our planet!

Hi there! I’m Michelle and I live in Kitchener, Ontario, Canada. I am married with two young adult daughters. I’m a big fan of reducing waste, using less plastic, decluttering and simplifying life as much as possible.
