Stillness – A poem to restore calm

Hello friends. I shared last Sunday that I’m away this weekend, escaping the busyness of life at our Alpha weekend. As I pondered my need for peace and stillness this week, I did something I rarely do. I wrote a poem that I wanted to share with you. I hope you enjoy it!

Bench surrounded by green trees, shrubs and grass "Stressed? Embrace the Stillness. A Poem for Our Times"

Stillness – A poem by Michelle Oram

Mind racing
Heart thumping
Feet rushing
Be still

To do list growing
Deadlines looming
Time flying
Be still

Inbox overflowing
Phones buzzing
Fraudsters scamming
Be still

Negative newscasts
Political ramblings
Toxic trolls
Be still

Breathe…
Be still…
Breathe…
Be still…

Remember what matters
Stay in the moment
Shut out distractions
Be still

Prayerful mornings
Leisurely lunches
Reflective evenings
Be still

Birds chirping
Flowers blooming
Water babbling
Be still

Joy returns
Energy abounds
Creativity reigns
I am still

Thank you for reading. I hope you enjoyed my poem. The Sunday Spark returns next week. Until then, I wish you a week of stillness.

  1. Thank you for sharing. I enjoyed you poem very much, it makes good sense. It is easy to become tangled up in life’s agenda of to-do-lists, expectations and personal commitments. As I get wiser in my years, I remember from therapy, life is as busy as you let it be. Learning to say No and meaning it, has helped me. Whereas my younger self would comply regardless.
Breath slowly five seconds. Hold it for four. Breath out five. Repeat. Mantra.

I'd love to hear your ideas. Drop me a comment below.
