So far in 2025, bleak environmental news is everywhere we turn. This month’s lead post for the Climate Change Collective comes from Alison at A Sustainably Simple Life who provides insight on how to manage overwhelming climate change topics. Along with thoughts on her piece, today’s post has a roundup of reliable sources of positive environmental news.

Keeping things positive in the face of bleak environmental news
In last week’s Plastic Free July post, I shared my concerns that politicians here in Canada and around the world are undoing much of the positive environmental progress we’ve seen in recent years. Although I try to keep climate anxiety at bay by focusing on my own actions, the ongoing barrage of bleak environmental news has been getting to me.
In this month’s lead post for the Climate Change Collective, Alison discusses how easy it is to get overwhelmed by the big topics and feel that our efforts don’t make a difference. Visit her post for thoughts on ways to tackle these big environmental issues one step at a time.
Focusing on too big of a picture can sometimes weigh us down and make it difficult to see how our everyday choices make a difference.

How to Face Overwhelming Climate Change Topics Like Plastic
I share Alison’s concerns. It seems it’s harder and harder to find good news on the environmental front. As is often the case, mainstream media reports the bad news and pays little attention to the good things that are happening around the world. A recent article in Canadian Affairs indicated that less than 3% of media stories about climate change even include mention of a solution.
Reliable sources for positive environmental news
To keep climate anxiety in check, it’s critical to find good news sources to offset the dire environmental news that’s coming at us every day. Here are five sources that give me hope on a daily basis:

About the Climate Change Collective
The Climate Change Collective started when I left a comment on a blog post by Jamie Ad Stories. Jamie and I wanted to find a way to keep environmental issues top of mind for everyone, so I posted on social media to see what kind of interest there would be in a climate-change-related blogging collaboration. The Climate Change Collective was born!
For over three years, the members our group took turns writing a monthly blog post sharing their unique perspective about climate change. After the lead post was published, the rest of the group kept the conversation going by sharing a link to the post on their blogs along with their thoughts and ideas.

I did not know about some of these good news sites; I will definitely be checking them out. I’ve been thinking about this a lot too so for my lead post I am going to be highlighting some success stories and initiatives to support as I think we all need an uplift (in so many ways).
Yes, we all need more good news. I try to keep things positive here on the blog but it’s getting harder with everything going on in the world.
Yes. Climate-related (bad) news has been getting to me, too. I was thinking last night as I fell asleep how poorly I and my generation have done moving from ignorance (“the future is plastics” in THE GRADUATE) to action. I continue to live as simple and sustainable life as I can. And I attempt not to be too judgmental as yet another friend or family member heads off on yet another jet-airplane-travel adventure. Mostly I remain in denial about how bad everything is getting and will continue to get regarding the climate (and regarding the American political landscape…) As i have written before on WordPress, I do sometimes wonder if our human inability to respond in a significant way to climate change/catastrophe is being accelerated by Gaia/Mother Earth in order to speed up the demise/dominance of human culture/civilization here on planet earth… Deep breath in. Deep breath out.
I wonder the same thing too, Will. It does feel like we’re headed for disaster. The travel thing is difficult for me. I know the impact but, with loved ones living far away, I can’t bear the idea of never seeing them. I do make responsible choices in other areas of my life, though. I have often said that if everyone did something, we’d be in a much better place. But when a large percentage of the population live recklessly, and governments support and encourage that by their policies, it’s easy to lose heart. Keep the faith, my friend. 💚
