The Climate Change Collective is an initiative where the blogging community unites behind a common goal. This month’s lead post is from Smelly Socks and Garden Peas, and it’s all about how little things add up to a lot when it comes to sustainability.
Little things add up to a lot
One of the things I love about the Climate Change Collective is the wide variety of posts that have been contributed to the series. Along with research-based pieces, we’ve had posts about small, simple changes that anyone can make. It’s such a wonderful balance.
In this month’s lead post, Smell from Smelly Socks and Garden Peas shares several tiny steps she has made in the interest of sustainability.
When it comes to sustainability, it’s easy to feel that the everyday changes that are within all of our reach are a mere drop in the ocean. We often lament slow progress and wish “someone” would come along with a magic wand and make big, sweeping changes. But there is no quick fix.
I loved Smell’s post because it took me back to the reason I started this blog. In my very first blog post back in July 2019, I shared my belief that if we all do a little, it will add up to a lot. I still believe that.
You see, every single person’s journey to sustainability started with one little step. One of the best things about small changes is they snowball. Once you’ve made one or two simple swaps, you’ll start to see others. The more you change, the easier it gets, and the bigger the impact.

The widely-accepted assessment of managing the human impact on our planet is that a few people completely changing their lives will have a tiny cumulative impact; but everyone doing a little bit would add up to much much more.

About the Climate Change Collective
The Climate Change Collective started after I left a comment on a blog post by Jamie Ad Stories. Jamie and I wanted to find a way to keep the climate change message top of mind for everyone, so I put out a tweet to see what kind of interest there would be in a climate-change-related blogging collaboration. The Climate Change Collective was born!
The members of the collective take turns writing a monthly blog post sharing their unique perspective about climate change. After the post is published, the rest of the group keeps the conversation going by sharing a link to the post on their blogs along with their thoughts and ideas.
If you’re a like-minded blogger and would like to join our collective, please get in touch. More voices joining the conversation means more attention to the problems plaguing our planet!
