After the extreme heat of summer, the cooler days and nights of September are a welcome change. But let’s not get too far ahead of ourselves. Before we officially close the book on summer, let’s look at my August 2025 goals update.

August goals update
Getting Colleen ready for her big move to Prince Edward Island was a main focus in August. In between packing, I managed to make some decent progress on my other goals. Let’s dive in.

Fitness goals
I kept the same fitness goals of 400 minutes of physical activity a week, including walks and 2 strength training and 3 balance/flexibility sessions.
The extreme heat made it difficult to get out for a walk some days. Even so, I hit all my goals two out of four weeks, and got pretty close the other two weeks. Overall, I averaged 388 minutes per week of physical activity, and I hit my goals for strength training and balance/flexibility training every week.
Reading
My goal for August was to read 4 books. I crushed it with 8 books read. I think that’s a record for me. Here’s what I read this month:
- The Testaments by Margaret Atwood
- The Inmate by Freida McFadden
- Seduction by Catherine Gildner
- Beautiful Ugly by Alice Feeney
- Dear Edward by Ann Napolitano
- The Let Them Theory by Mel Robbins
- The Banned Books Club by Brenda Novak
- What Does It Feel Like by Sophie Kinsella
Writing
I met my goal of rereading and editing my personal memoir. I’m still pondering what I should do with it but at least it’s written.
Retirement coaching
My goal was to get my fall retirement coaching workshop on my website—which involved figuring out payment options. This one is done but I held off on pushing the pages live in case any issues arose while we were away in PEI.
Other goals
- Help Colleen get her things all packed up and ready for her big move to PEI. Done!
- Plan the fall schedule and music selections for the church choir. Done!

My September goals
I will be away from home for two weeks this month, so my September goals reflect that. Here are my plans for the month.
- Fitness goals: I’ve been feeling a bit bored with my fitness routine, but I’m not sure what I need to do to switch things up. If anyone has any ideas for home-based workouts, please let me know. As I ponder that, here are my fitness goals for September:
- On the weeks I’m home, my goal is to keep up with my workouts with 400 minutes of physical activity a week, including walks and 2 strength training and 3 balance/flexibility sessions.
- On the weeks I’m away, I’ll aim for a daily walk and an average of 7,000 steps a day.
- Reading: I don’t think I’ll hit 8 books again, so my goal for September is a more modest 5 books.
- Writing: My next step is to choose pictures for my personal memoir.
- Retirement coaching: Everything is ready to go for my workshop. When we’re back from PEI, I’ll push the pages live on the website and start my promotional activities.

It looks like you absolutely crushed it when it came to your August goals. I hope you’re proud of that
Thank you. Yes, I am proud considering it was a busy month.
Awesome!!
Great job nailing your August goals, Michelle! I’ll need to check back to see if anyone else recommends good at-home fitness routines, as I’m looking for the same. 😊
Thanks Erin! I follow a lot of YouTube fitness channels, but I feel like I need to freshen things up a bit.
I also read Let Them in August and in fact am returning the book to the library this morning. Great read!
I was actually disappointed by Let Them. It didn’t live up to the hype for me. Maybe it would have had a bigger impact if I’d read it when I was younger.
I can see why you feel that way. A lot of the advice seems to be wisdom we naturally (and hopefully) gain as we mature through adulthood. I can see it, as you noted, having a bigger impact on young adults! Advice I wish I had in my 20s and 30s.
Definitely! Maybe I should get my daughters to read it. 😂
