October 2022 roundup of outstanding blog posts

As I sit down to write my October 2022 roundup, I’m asking myself where the heck October went. It was an eventful month and now it’s time to turn our attention to preparing for Christmas. But first, it’s time to share 5 outstanding blog posts I read in October.

This month’s roundup features posts that discuss book banning, the importance of kindness, the circular economy, passion projects, and why happiness isn’t always a choice.

This monthly roundup is my way of saying thank you to the blogging community and featuring some of my favourite bloggers who regularly put out funny, inspiring and informative content.

So find a cozy spot, grab your favourite beverage and take a few minutes to read these posts. I hope you’ll love them as much as I did. While you’re at it, explore some of the other content from these bloggers and give them a follow.

Coming up on Boomer Eco Crusader in November

In addition to my weekly Simple Living Sunday posts, this month I’ll explore ways to reduce the environmental impact of keeping your clothes clean. I’ll also mark Talk Money Week and Financial Literacy Month with a roundup of frugal living tips to save you money. Plus, I’ll look at greener hair care options.

Let’s keep in touch! Join my mailing list and I’ll email you when I add a new post.

The pushback on progress: Banning books in the United States – Transatlantic Notes

The current movement to ban books that include stories about and by Black and LBGTQ2S+ characters is a disturbing trend. In this thought-provoking post, Molly takes on the privilege behind this censorship.

Make no mistake, this isn’t about informative and commonsense guidance regarding access to potentially inappropriate topics, issues and concepts; it’s about trying to subdue a progressive and transformative world that conservative right-wing America doesn’t like — and it’s recklessly undemocratic.

Sunday Serenity: Kindness and a lesson from a door – The Chicago Files

Here’s a face we haven’t seen in the monthly roundup for a while. Cher is back and she’s got an important reminder of why kindness matters!

At some junction, kindness appears to have taken second fiddle for those who see the world as a ‘what can I get’ as opposed to ‘how can I serve others’ mentality.

Welcome to Circular Economy Month – A Sustainably Simple Life

October may be over, but this informative post reminds us of the importance of the circular economy, and how we can shift our behaviour and take part.

Around the world we largely create, use, and dispose of the goods we need for daily life in a path that can be viewed as a straight line: resource extraction, creation of product, and then disposal. It doesn’t take long to see the problem with this however as resources are finite, so what happens when they run out?

Why you should start a passion project – Not-So-Modern Girl

Do you have a passion project—something that you can spend hours on with no expectation of pay or praise? This post is a reminder of why we all need one.

It’s important to feel passionate about your work, of course, but it’s equally important to remember that it is only a job—and there is so much more to our lives, and so many ways to find a little bit of passion!

Happiness ISN’T a choice – Here’s why it’s not – Unwanted Life

If you believe everyone can choose to be happy, take five minutes to read this thoughtful post on why happiness isn’t a choice. It might just change your mind.

You can choose to try to be happy, doing things that could lead to you being happy, but you can’t just become happy because you’ve chosen to.

Hi there! I’m Michelle and I live in Kitchener, Ontario, Canada. I am married with two young adult daughters. I’m a big fan of reducing waste, using less plastic, decluttering and simplifying life as much as possible.
