Christmas Eve is here! With the preparations out of the way, it’s time to make some new Christmas memories.
This will be a different Christmas for us. For the first time since she was born, our daughter Laura won’t be here to celebrate with us. It’s hard.
With that in mind, I decided to share a poem that I published last Christmas on Wise & Shine. It’s a reminder there’s joy to be found even when things aren’t perfect.
I wish you all the blessings of the Christmas season. May the spirit of Christmas bring an abundance of joy, laughter, and peace to you and your loved ones.
Merry Christmas to all!
Memories of a Mismatched Christmas Tree
I’m a mismatched Christmas tree
No magazine will feature me
A mix of colours adorn my boughs
Sparking memories for everyone in this house
Memories of trips to faraway places
That bring a smile to all of our faces
Memories of loved ones everywhere
Who made precious ornaments with loving care
Memories of things that matter most
Of friends, family, and faith the baubles boast
And because this life is often flawed
Imperfect trinkets we do applaud
As you gaze upon my laden limbs
Let memories fill your heart to the brim
Memories of a lifetime of love you’ll see
Sparked by a mismatched Christmas tree

Merry Christmas, Michelle. It’ll be a different Christmas and hope you will also enjoy it!
Thanks, Ab. Merry Christmas to you and your family, too!
I understand the feelings of a family not together for the holiday. I wish that I could say it gets easier every year but…I cannot. So savior the moments when you are together, hold onto memories, call, video chat, keep a text chat going strong…it helps a bit until the next time the hugs can happen in person. Merry Christmas Michelle.
Thanks, Deb. We will make the most of it! Merry Christmas to you, too.
Lovely words and sentiment.
Thanks, Jamie! Merry Christmas to you!
