July was a hot one here in southern Ontario with record breaking temperatures and very little rainfall. It was another busy month for me as we celebrated our anniversary, my birthday, and my sister visited from England for three weeks. Not surprisingly, my July 2025 goals update reflects mixed results thanks to all that activity.

July goals update
Let’s look at how the month went on the goals front.

Fitness goals
I hoped to maintain the summer momentum and get 400 minutes of physical activity a week, including walks and 2 strength training and 3 balance/flexibility sessions. I fell just short with an average of 380 minutes of physical activity. But I did maintain the strength and balance/flexibility training so it was a good month overall.
Reading
As I’d been reading a lot of non-fiction books, my goal for July was to read 4 fiction books. I exceed that with 5 fiction and 1 non-fiction books. Here’s what I read this month:
- Canada is Awesome by Neil Pasricha
- The Summer Guests by Tess Gerritsen
- Wish You Were Here by Jodi Picoult
- Here One Moment by Liane Moriarty
- Listen to Me by Tess Gerritsen
- The Boyfriend by Freida McFadden
Writing
My goal was to wrap up the first draft of my personal memoir. It’s done. Now I just need to figure out what I’m going to do with it.
Retirement coaching
My goal was to get my fall retirement coaching workshop on my website—which involves figuring out payment options. This one is not done.
Health
Well, I picked the wrong month to attempt to reduce my sugar intake. It was my birthday and our anniversary. This one was a big fail!

My August goals
Here are my goals for the month.
- Fitness goals: I’m keeping the same goal of 400 minutes of physical activity a week, including walks and 2 strength training and 3 balance/flexibility sessions.
- Reading: My goal for August is to read 4 books.
- Writing: Now that the first draft of my personal memoir is done, I want to re-read and edit it.
- Retirement coaching: I’m going to again attempt to get my fallretirement coaching workshop on my website—which involves figuring out payment options.
- Other:
- Our daughter Colleen accepted a permanent position in Prince Edward Island so we’ll be getting her things packed up and ready to move.
- Plan the fall schedule and music selections for the church choir.

Thank you!
An average of 380 minutes of physical activity a week might not have hit your goal, but is amazing nonetheless
Thank you! I read a book by Dr. Sanjay Gupta earlier this year that suggested 400 to 450 minutes of physical activity is the optimal amount for brain health as we age so that’s what I’m working towards. Between the summer heat, and the poor air quality from wildfire smoke, It’s hard to fit that in! But I’ll keep at it.
It sounds like July was a month to tick off some goals! I have had a bit of a slow down because I started a new job (and I’ve been nervous/busy), but you have inspired me to keep on going.
Thanks Molly. Congratulations on your new job!
I love how productive you were in July, Michelle! So many terrific celebrations and great progress on your goals. Go you, go you! 💕
Thanks, Vicki. 💚 It was a busy month that just flew by. And August is already almost half over.
Congrats on completing the draft of your memoir and best wishes with your next steps!
Happy birthday and anniversary too and good luck with the sugar detox this month!
Thanks, Ab. Now I need to figure out what I want to do with the draft.
Good luck with yours goals, Michelle! Always love seeing how you bounce back from goals you fell short on and keep going. 💕
Thank you Layla!
