Summer is rolling along quickly, and we’re into the last week of Laura’s time with us before she returns to B.C. and then on to Australia. No matter how much I’d like to, I can’t freeze or even slow down time. Instead, I’ll share my July 2026 goals report and a look ahead at my goals for August.
July 2026 goals report
July really did fly by. In keeping with the summer vibe, I had a bit of a lighter goals lineup for the month. Let’s look at how July went.

Fitness goals
Recognizing I’d be out in B.C. visiting Laura for the first part of July, my workout goals looked a little different this month.
Despite the air quality advisories from wildfire smoke, I managed to meet my goal of an average of 10,000 steps a day—ending the month with an average of 10,092 steps.
On the other hand, I didn’t keep up with my workouts while travelling. After returning home, I met my goal of 2 strength training sessions each week, but fell short of my goal of 3 balance/flexibility sessions each week with an average of 1.5.
Health goals
My goal for July was to lose the last pound to reach my goal weight. I lost 2 pounds so that goal is in the bag!
Reading
My reading goal for July was 5 books. I exceeded that with 6 books read, plus 3 audiobooks, for a total of 9. Here’s what I read this month.
- Anne of Windy Poplars by L.M. Montgomery (Audiobook)
- The House by the Sea by Louise Douglas
- Normal People by Sally Rooney
- By Another Name: Poetry and Reflections by Scott Alexander Beaudry
- Anne’s House of Dreams by L.M. Montgomery (Audiobook)
- This Sea Within by Deborah Brasket
- Carrie Soto is Back by Taylor Jenkins Reid
- Anne of Ingleside by L.M. Montgomery (Audiobook)
- Retirement Voices – Stories of Reinvention, Purpose, and Possibilities by Retirement Coaches Association
Intentional living
My July goal was to finish sorting through the stuff in Laura’s room when she was home. We made good progress and I have a big box of stuff to give away or donate after she leaves.
Retirement coaching
- My main goal was to complete the slides for the workshop I’m delivering in New Orleans this fall. I originally thought I had to submit my slides on July 21. When I had a call with the organizers and other presenters in early July, I learned I have until August 21 so I took advantage of the extra breathing space. Even so, I did create a first draft and I’ll finish it up in August.
- A priority for July was to promote the Retirement Coaches Association book that I had written a chapter for. Done!

My August goals
I did fall short in a couple of areas, but I’m happy with how July went on the goals front. The first part of August will be busy with lots of family stuff, so I’m going with a lighter goals lineup again this month. Here’s what I have planned for August.
- Fitness: Again, I’m aiming for an average of 10,000 steps a day for August along with 2 strength training and 3 balance/flexibility sessions each week.
- Health: Now that I’ve achieved it, I want to maintain my goal weight.
- Reading: I’m again aiming for 5 books in August.
- Retirement coaching:
- Write the CPRC 2.0 exam.
- Finish and submit the slides and materials for the workshop I’m delivering in New Orleans this fall.
- Prepare a launch plan for my new Retirement Uncluttered workshop launching this fall.
