My favourite month of the year is over, and what a month it was with beautiful weather and wonderful fall colours! Read on for my October 2026 goals report and a look ahead at my goals for November—a month when I typically experience low energy levels and lack of motivation.
October 2026 goals report
My travels ate into some of my time to work on goals in October. I spent the first few days of October in PEI visiting Colleen and had a short trip to New Orleans to present a workshop toward the end of the month. Let’s look at how the month went.

Fitness goals
My main fitness goal for October was to maintain my 400 minutes of weekly physical activity—including walks—along with 2 strength training and 3 balance/flexibility sessions each week. I met my 400 minute goal, exceeded my strength training goal and fell slightly short of my balance/flexibility goal. Overall, I’m calling it a win.
I also set a goal to finish the last week of the 25 in 25 Challenge on the Over Fifty Fitness platform. I put the challenge on hold when I left for Charlottetown at the end of September, and completed it after I returned home.
Health goals
Now that my weight is where I want it to be, I shifted my focus to nutrition with two goals for October:
- 5 servings of fruit and vegetables a day. I didn’t keep close track of this one but I’m pretty sure I did it.
- Research protein needs for women my age. DONE. Watch for details in an upcoming blog post.
Reading
After exceeding my reading goal for several months in a row, I fell short of my goal of 6 books for October. Even so, I’m still ahead of schedule on my yearly reading goal of 70 books.
Here’s what I read this month:
- Sold by Patricia McCormick
- Atmosphere by Taylor Jenkins Reid
- Known to the Victim by K.L. Armstrong
- Us Against You by Fredrik Backman
Intentional living
I completed my planned four Tidy-Up Tuesday decluttering blitzes in October.
Retirement coaching
I intended to schedule my new Retirement Uncluttered workshop for January. My lack of motivation on this one carried over from September, so I didn’t get it done. The workshop I delivered in New Orleans energized me a little in this area so there’s hope for November.

My November goals
October saw some mixed results, and November is usually a difficult month for me because it’s just so dark and dreary. Here’s what I have planned for this month.
- Fitness: I’m keeping my weekly goal of 400 minutes of physical activity—including walks. This could be a challenge as the weather gets colder and the evenings get darker, so we’ll see. I’m increasing my strength training goal to 3 sessions a week and keeping my balance/flexibility goal at 3 sessions each week.
- Health: I’m aiming for 90 grams of protein every day, without resorting to protein powder or bars on at least half of the days.
- Reading: I’ve reduced my reading goal to 5 books.
- Intentional living: 4 Tidy-Up Tuesday blitzes
- Retirement coaching: I’ve been asked to present December’s Educate & Enlighten webinar for the Retirement Coaches Association, so I need to put slides together for that. I’m hoping that will be just the motivation I need to schedule my new Retirement Uncluttered workshop.

How is it November already, Michelle! Congrats on getting through your favourite month in a very productive way. You’re going to end the year on a strong note!
Thanks, Ab. Isn’t this beautiful early November weather we’ve been having great? I hope it continues…until March! 😂
With the Super El Niño, we’re expected to have quite the mild winter, so you may get your wish!
Looks like a good month Michelle! A tiny lack of motivation is okay 😉
Thanks, Deb. Yes, lack of motivation hits us all from time to time. I just need to stop procrastinating with some of this stuff and dive in.
