Happy Earth Day! How Will You Reconnect With Nature?

Hello and Happy Earth Day! I don’t usually post on Mondays but today is special. If you’re looking for ways to celebrate Earth Day, take a look at my post this morning on Wise & Shine. It has five simple ways you can reconnect with nature on Earth Day or any day.

5 Ways to Reconnect With the Earth

The theme for Earth Day 2024 is Planet vs. Plastics. If you missed last Tuesday’s post, it discussed our growing plastics problem and had seven single-use plastic items everyone can give up to make a huge difference in our global plastic problem.

This week, negotiators from 176 countries will gather in Ottawa for a fourth round of talks on a global treaty to eliminate plastic waste. Let’s hope they can reach an agreement.

Once again, Happy Earth Day. Let me know your plans to reconnect with nature today.

Hi there! I’m Michelle and I live in Kitchener, Ontario, Canada. I am married with two young adult daughters. I’m a big fan of reducing waste, using less plastic, decluttering and simplifying life as much as possible.

  1. I think you know I try to be out in nature everyday in some way and am working hard to modify how I live as well. Our county sends out a newsletter every quarter. I was so delighted to read that they are now eliminating their prior standards for what can go in our big compost bins that the city takes. It used to be only yard waste- grass/branches… and certain vegetable scraps. They EXPANDED and now all food waste is allowed. So glad they finally have the facilities to manage this way of composting. Since I don’t have my own yard it was always tough to toss food waste and I would sneak in what I could into the big bin. Now no more guilt cause they accept it all 🙂

    1. That’s amazing! Our community has a very successful green bin program that accepts all food waste. It has a high level of adoption and has extended the life of our landfill by 15 to 20 years. Proof that our efforts do matter.

I'd love to hear your ideas. Drop me a comment below.
