How are you doing with your 2022 goals? Are you still making progress, or did you abandon them long ago? Or perhaps you set some aside and replaced them with some new ones. It feels like I just sat down and wrote my mid-year goals update and it’s already time for a Q3 progress report.
Life is feeling more normal these days
Overall, life felt fairly normal over the summer. I went to a couple of concerts and enjoyed work-related trips to Colorado Springs and Toronto. We also celebrated my birthday, our anniversary, our great-niece’s first birthday, and our niece’s wedding shower. Lot of happy events!
Looking back, I made better progress on some goals than others. Let’s have a look at the first nine months of 2022…
Q3 progress report on 2022 goals
To align with my overall focus of simplifying life, I reduced the number of goals I’m tracking in 2022. Even with fewer goals and extra time thanks to my move to a 4-day work week, life still feels very busy. Let’s look at how things are going.
Gratitude journalling
My primary goal for this year was to appreciate the simple things in life by building a regular habit of gratitude journalling. In Q3, I continued to share weekly updates in my Simple Living Sunday posts.
I feel I’ve made good progress on being grateful for life’s simple pleasures. However, as life has been busier, I haven’t been taking the time to write down things I’m grateful for every day. Last quarter, I reported that I needed more discipline in this area. It’s still a work in progress.
For the rest of the year, I’m going to try to get back into a daily habit of journalling.
Reading
This year, I set a goal to read one book a month which would be an improvement over the total of seven I read in 2021.
As of the end of September, I had read 14 books in 2022, so I’ve already met my goal for the year with three months to go. Here’s what I read in Q3:
- Queen – As It Began by Jacky Smith and Jim Jenkins
- Before She Disappeared by Lisa Gardner
- The Return by Nicholas Sparks
- The Dead Romantics by Ashley Poston
- Longevity Lifestyle by Design by Mike Drak & Friends (See this post for my review of this book)
- Beyond the Orange Shirt Story by Phyllis Webstad (Learn more about Orange Shirt Day in this post)
So, with six books read in three months, I crushed my goal of reading one book a month. I’m enjoying reading more—definitely one of life’s simple pleasures.
Have you read any great books lately? I’d love to hear your recommendations in the comments below.
Lifelong Learning
With so many things to learn in life, lifelong learning will be a forever goal for me. This year, I set two learning goals:
- Certified Professional Retirement Coach course. I finished the course work and passed the exam in the first quarter, but I’m still stalled on my practice coaching. If you’re planning your next chapter of life and are interested in helping me out and letting me help you create your plan, let me know. (You can read more about this in Retire retirement! Plan your best years now!)
- Plain Language Certificate I had set a goal to complete the remaining course work for this program, but I put that one on hold for now to focus on the Certified Professional Retirement Coach work. Maybe I’ll pick that goal up again in 2023.

Singing
My final goal is to get back into a regular routine of practising my singing after joining a band at the end of last year. I have been practising regularly and staying on top of learning my music. My band Wichita! has a show coming up at the beginning of November, so right now I’m focused on memorizing lyrics.
So that is my Q3 progress report on my 2022 goals—overall okay but definitely could be better in some areas. My biggest learning this year is I do better when I track more goals.

Great job on meeting those goals you set out for yourself! I’m reading more than I’ve ever read before but I also feel like I’m drowning a bit. It’s the usual trying-to-catch-up-with-life feeling… trying to be a good friend/wife/mother/employee/blogger, etc… My only blogging-related goal right now is to make it to the end of the year and start anew for 2023!
That’s a good goal! This is the first year I haven’t set any blogging goals, choosing just to keep doing what I am doing, when I can do it.
Congratulations on finishing the course and on crushing your reading goals! This is such a thoughtful way to look at personal progress.
Thanks very much.
Love your list of books, as each one sounds interesting! I also love that you keep coming back and revisiting and revising your goals. 🙂
Thanks Jaya. For 2023, I am thinking of doing monthly goals as so much seems to change between the beginning and end of the year.
You did well with your targets – especially reading so many books.
Thanks Jamie. Having time off work definitely helped with the reading goals.
