Simple Living Sunday – Hello from Toronto

Hello everyone! This week’s Simple Living Sunday post is coming to you from Toronto, Ontario—Canada’s biggest city. As I mentioned last week, I’ve been travelling the last couple of weekends so I’m taking a break from my usual Sunday posts.

Today, along with my three simple pleasures and highlights of the past week, I’ll share some photos of this amazing city. Then, I’ll wrap up with three more of my favourite quotes about the joy of simple living.

Three simple pleasures and highlights

Continuing my practice of celebrating the simple things in life, here are three simple pleasures and highlights of the last week.

  • I was grateful that my return home from Colorado Springs went smoothly with no airport delays.
  • The beautiful black cat that lives in our neighbourhood dropped by for a visit this week. He stayed long enough for me to pet him.
  • It’s so wonderful to be able to gather with friends and colleagues from my professional association for our conference after two years of cancellations.

The beauty of Toronto, Ontario

Toronto, Ontario is a city of just under 3 million people, located on the shores of Lake Ontario. It’s about 100 kilometres east of where I live in Kitchener. Toronto is one of North America’s most diverse and multi-cultural cities.

Considering I live so close, I don’t often spend time in Toronto doing touristy things. Most of my trips here are purpose-driven. I come, do what I need to do, and go home. This time, I’m here for 5 days but I’ll be kept busy with work-related meetings and conference sessions. I do hope there will be some time to explore a little.

Top 10 things to do in Toronto, Ontario

If you’re planning to visit Toronto, here are my suggestions for the top 10 things to do while you’re here.

  1. CN Tower – You can take the stairs but the elevator is much faster.
  2. Ripley’s Aquarium
  3. Royal Ontario Museum
  4. Ontario Science Centre
  5. Toronto Zoo
  6. Take a walk along the shore of Lake Ontario
  7. See a musical at one of Toronto’s many world-class theatres

Three quotes about simple living

Finally, I’ll leave you with three quotes about simple living that resonated with me this week.

Simple things bring infinite pleasure. Yet, it takes us a while to realize that. But once simple is in, complex is out – forever.

Nature teaches us simplicity and contentment because in its presence we realize we need very little to be happy.

Any intelligent fool can make things bigger, more complex, and more violent. It takes a touch of genius — and a lot of courage to move in the opposite direction.

I hope you enjoyed this little break from my usual Simple Living Sunday posts. Normal programming will resume next weekend. Enjoy your week!

What simple pleasures did you enjoy this week? Tell me about them below.

Hi there! I’m Michelle and I live in Kitchener, Ontario, Canada. I am married with two young adult daughters. I’m a big fan of reducing waste, using less plastic, decluttering and simplifying life as much as possible.

    1. Ha ha. I was telling my American friends how people from the west dislike Toronto. It is a fun city, although given a choice, I would pick Vancouver any day!

  1. Born and raised in Toronto! 🙂 Love my city! I actually got married at the distillery district too 🙂 Have a wedding pic in front of that Love lock sign 🙂 Hope you’re enjoying your stay, Michelle!

    1. Thanks Jen! Yes, Toronto is a wonderful city. It has been a fun, but whirlwind trip. I have especially enjoyed showing some of my American friends some of the sights.

  2. Do hope you get to be a tourist. We have done many of your suggestions. I especially remember the CN Tower and seeing Phantom of the Opera on New Years Eve. So many great restaurants too.

    1. I did have some free time this morning so I walked down to the waterfront. It’s sweltering hot and humid here this weekend so I was glad to get back to the AC.

  3. Toronto looks like an amazing place to visit. I hope everything goes well for you and you get a chance to explore a little.

    1. It is an amazing city. We went out to a local brewery last night for a tour and had a lovely dinner in their pub. It’s very hot here this weekend!

I'd love to hear your ideas. Drop me a comment below.
