As we gear up for spring cleaning season, you may feel the need to do a little decluttering. If you do, I hope you’ll join my Tidy-Up Tuesdays challenge in April. Read on to find out how the challenge works and how you can participate.
A fresh approach to decluttering in 2026
After wrapping up my second round of the 52-Week Decluttering Challenge in 2024, I took a bit of a break from decluttering in 2025. Recognizing a need to continue to stay on top of the clutter, I needed a fresh approach for 2026.
At the beginning of this year, I decided to set aside time every week to do a mini decluttering blitz. Renewed enthusiasm combined with extreme cold temperatures in January inspired me to step it up and do a 10-day blitz to tackle out-of-sight clutter. It gave me just the kickstart I needed.

Introducing Tidy-Up Tuesdays
Since my January blitz, I’ve continued with a weekly decluttering challenge. I’ve started calling it Tidy-Up Tuesdays. These Tidy-Up Tuesdays have really helped re-energize my decluttering efforts and I hope I can inspire you to join me.
The idea is simple. First, download my Easy Decluttering Checklist to help you decide what to keep and what to get rid of. Then, set aside 15 minutes every Tuesday and pick a single area of your home to declutter. You might choose one drawer or shelf, a single tote box, or a cluttered visible surface that you’re tired of looking at.
Find your decluttering motivation
To increase your chances of success with this challenge or any decluttering project, take the time to consider why you want or need to declutter. For help finding your motivation, check out 12 practical ways to find motivation to declutter.
My renewed focus has been partially inspired by my daughters’ moves to faraway places. When Colleen moved to PEI last year, we did a major clean-up of her room. She took most of her stuff with her and the move gave us a chance to get rid of things she no longer wanted or needed. Similarly, Laura’s move to Australia later this year is an opportunity to go through everything that’s left in her room. If she doesn’t want to ship it to Australia, it’s time to let it go.

I’m ahead of the game here, Michelle. I’ve been decluttering for quite a few months now, although there is still a little more to do. I’ve made many visits to the recycling centre and charity shops. Plus, I’ve earned some money on ebay, too. I love that feeling you get when you see what was once a cluttered up bit of space either empty or much more tidier.
That’s fantastic, Hugh! And I agree on that wonderful feeling when you look at that newly decluttered space.
yay!!
I’m all in for tidying Tuesdays….
Yes! We’ll clear the clutter together! 😀
It seems like your post popped up at the right time, Michelle. I think I need to join you in this challenge, but I might adapt it slightly to Thursdays rather than Tuesdays.
That’s great Brenda! The day doesn’t matter as much as the tidying! 😀
Hi Michelle, How have you been? I have already made a list of decluttering I would do this year. Following the same steps that you mentioned here, I take up one corner at a time. It not just clears the area, beautify it with my DIY creativity, but also clears my mind, sort of letting go of the past. Thanks again for this post as a reminder that this Holy Week brings with it, a time for revival and resurrection of your self.
Hi Ranjana! It’s so nice to hear from you. I’m doing well thanks. I’m glad to hear you have a decluttering list. You’re right about it clearing the mind.
I wish you a blessed and peaceful Easter!
Decluttering and tidy ups are one of the best natural parts of Spring. 😊
Right! Yesterday was such a nice day that I opened all the windows. Just getting that fresh air in the house felt so good!
Love the mini- tidy Michelle! Moving is a great motivator, even when you think you’ve already been thorough you (okay me) realize that you may have hung onto things you really don’t need. Once my kept items arrived it was about just getting them in. Then, given enough time to see what was useful and what wasn’t, I’ve been able to donate quite a few things or if necessary toss and replace with something more appropriate to where I am now. There’s been a lot of asking myself “do I really need this now” since settling here in Colorado 🙂
“Do I really need this now?” That’s an excellent question to ask, Deb. It acknowledges that the stage of life we’re at now is different than where we were 20 or even 5 years ago. We cleared a lot of stuff out of Colleen’s room when she moved to the East coast last year. And we’ll be doing the same with Laura’s room before she goes to Australia later this year.
I like that question Michelle! I’ve run into that more than I anticipated. Things I needed there just aren’t as essential now so why hang on on the off chance of someday… I think it’s part of my generational mind set that says, “well you just never know…” 🙂
I agree. It’s that “just in case” stuff that gets us if we’re not realistic about what we want our life to look like now.
