Tomorrow is Earth Day. Seeing the spectacular images of Earth from the Artemis II mission inspired me to celebrate Earth Day 2026 by writing a poem.
The theme for Earth Day 2026 is “Our Power Our Planet.” It’s a reminder that we all have the power to do something good for the Earth.
There’s nothing more awe inspiring than seeing images of Earth from space. One of my favourite books is Chris Hadfield’s You Are Here, a collection of images from his time as Commander of the International Space Station.
During the recent Artemis II mission to the moon, the pictures shared by the astronauts were amazing. This one in particular inspires a lot of deep thought. Here we are…all together on our beautiful planet.

Seeing images of Earth from space reminds us that it’s something to protect and respect. The beautiful images inspired me to write a poem.
My Earth Day 2026 poem is a haiku. If you’re not familiar with haiku, it’s a short 3-line 17-syllable poem. Haikus typically follow the format, 5 syllables, 7 syllables, 5 syllables. I’ve written a few poems but I’ve never attempted a haiku before because it’s often harder to express yourself in fewer words. Brevity and simplicity can be challenging.
Here’s my poem.
Earth Day 2026
The Earth is precious
Its abundance to be shared
Let us respect it

Happy Earth Day! I love your Haiku poem, Michelle 🙂
Thank you, Caroline. Happy Earth Day to you, too!
Wonderful, Michelle, and Happy Earth Day! Tomorrow I’ll be spending some time putting new mulch around my plants.
Thanks, Edward. Gardening is an excellent way to spend Earth Day!
You’re very welcome, Michelle. I think so too.
Happy Earth Day, Michelle!
I found the Artemis II photos of Earth so haunting and beautiful. A great reminder to protect what we have – especially you contrast it with planets like Mars or even the Moon. We have a real gift.
Thanks, Ab. Yes, haunting is a good word for it. Seeing the Earth like that was a powerful reminder that we are all here, together, sharing this beautiful planet. It makes any differences between countries, faiths, and cultures seem so insignificant. Happy Earth Day! 🌎
