Every Day is Earth Day – Green living tips to inspire you

Tomorrow is Earth Day. The theme for Earth Day 2021 is Restore Our Earth. To mark the occasion, I’m delighted to share “Every Day is Earth Day”, a poem written by my friend Pat Keachie for my Blog Takeover series last year.

I’ve also got a roundup of my favourite posts with tips to help you lead a greener, more sustainable life.

Together, we can Restore Our Earth.

This post was originally published in April 2021 and updated in April 2024.

Every Day is Earth Day

My friend Pat is a talented writer and poet. When I asked her to write a piece for my Blog Takeover series last year, I was delighted when she wrote a poem.

Every Day is Earth Day

By Pat Keachie

Each act of compassion
For dear Mother Earth
Brings change everlasting
You can’t measure
Its worth.

So pick up your garbage
Don’t leave it for me
I’ll be doing my own part
Like planting a tree.

We have to. For you see,
Each one of us lives Here
And what will we leave
To the ones who succeed us
Will they cherish or grieve
For our Planet?
It’s up to us.

Every Day is Earth Day - Poem by Pat Keachie

This isn’t the first time I’ve shared one of Pat’s poems on my blog. She also wrote a reflective poem about the pandemic called Who Knew that I shared in 2020. Looking back on that poem now is a little eerie.

Thank you Pat for allowing me to share your talent with my readers.

How You Can Restore Our Earth

As Pat says, “It’s up to us”! We all need to do our part to restore our earth. My passion for green living and the state of our planet is what led me to create this blog almost two years ago.

I’ve shared a lot of eco-friendly living tips in the past. Here’s a roundup of some of my favourite posts with easy changes you can make today.

Every change makes a difference. Remember, it’s about progress not perfection so make a commitment to make one small change starting today.

How will you celebrate Earth Day this year? Tell us your plans below.

Hi there! I’m Michelle and I live in Kitchener, Ontario, Canada. I am married with two young adult daughters. I’m a big fan of reducing waste, using less plastic, decluttering and simplifying life as much as possible.

  2. Work said I could dress casual for Earth Day, so I guess they’re saving me from urgently washing a load of laundry, lol. Living in Las Vegas, I have to be aware of my water & electricity usage. I’ll be more aware of turning the water off during a shower or washing dishes, and charge my car during off-peak times.

    1. Thanks Brittany. It is hard in hot climates. I do way more laundry in summer than winter. Good for you for driving a car you can charge! That has a huge positive impact on the environment.

  3. Thank you for including this poem, Michelle! For Earth Day I’m going to start by using (and wasting) less water. Whether it is from brushing my teeth, to doing the dishes, I’ll be more cognizant about what (unnecessarily) goes down the drain. Thank you for being such an inspiration, Michelle!! xoxoxo

  4. Thank you, Michelle, for your gently relentless focus on how we can make changes today in our lives which will give our children and grandchildren and great grandchildren (and nieces and nephews, etc.) a slightly better chance for a balanced life here on planet earth! I was reminded by a friend on Sunday that if we all ate less meat, that would have a huge positive impact in many, many different ways. So I am cutting back on my meat/fish consumption (which was already pretty low…) in honor of Earth Day.

    1. Thanks Will! Eating less meat is a great way to have a positive impact. My husband is a meat lover so that’s tricky for me. I do try to limit my meat consumption to once a day, and have at least one or two meatless days every week. It’s a start.

I'd love to hear your ideas. Drop me a comment below.
